Easter in Colombia

There are many benefits of traveling, it helps us to interact with other cultures, to visit new places; and also, to learn a little a different language, etc.
Although Easter is known as the time for reflection, many people take this time as the opportunity to travel with family or friends and visit places of interest. This small trip can help us to free ourselves from the stress of this first quarter of the year.
Here we present a small list of places you can visit during this week of rest:

MÚCURA ISLAND
Isla Múcura is part of the San Bernardo archipelago, located northwest of the Gulf of Morrosquillo, in the Colombian Caribbean.
It belongs to the department of Bolívar and is part of the PNN (National Natural Park) Corales del Rosario and San Bernardo. To get to Isla Múcura you can take a boat at the tourist dock of La Bodeguita, in Cartagena de Indias.
Another alternative to get to Isla Múcura is to take a boat from Santiago de Tolú; which is located more than 100 kilometers away from Cartagena.
The activities you can do in Múcura Island are: Snorkeling and diving, walk around the island, Biketours, Luminous Plankton watching.

BARICHARA
The calm of its streets will take you to a dreamlike viewpoint with the beauty of Santander landscape. Barichara, a national monument, is full of discreet craft shops, boutique hotels, churches with a lot of history and storytellers.
So, what can you do in Barichara in Easter?
It is easy to take good photos when walking through its streets, lined with clay-colored stones; you cross through squares full of trees and you can see walls of tapia pisada (houses built without any wooden plank but with several layers of ground and roofed with clay tiles). From a viewpoint, you can see the Suarez river canyon, where rafting is practiced, and close to the town you can visit the peaceful Guane.

VILLA DE LEYVA
Its cobblestone streets and white facades welcome travelers who come to Villa de Leyva, a municipality in Boyacá that is part of the Network of Peoples Heritage of Colombia and which can be reached from Bogotá in about three hours by land to the north-east of the city.
What is interesting to do in Villa de Leyva?
You can either, visit an ostrich farm, go to a theme park about dinosaurs, visit archaeological sites and buy crafts made of ceramics, the mud house or terracotta house, the Iguaque lagoon and vineyards.

TAYRONA PARK
Of course the Tayrona National Park in Santa Marta is a subject that we cannot ignore, this park offers the option of walking through the jungle, enjoy nature and the beach at the same time. There are several ways to access to the park. The first one, by boat from Taganga. The second, and the busiest, known as “El Zaíno” is the one that leads to the beaches in a walk of a few hours; and the third, the least known, Calabazo.
There are about 32km from Santa Marta to the Zaino, it is approximately journet of 1h and then a walk of about 30-45 minutes awaits you to Canaveral, shortly before you reach the part known as Piscina. And to Cabo San Juan it’s about 1h in total (with a good walking pace). We recommend you to take hydration.
SAN ANDRÉS ISLAND
To these paradisiacal islands come people from all over the world searching for some rest, white sand beaches, and landscapes that take your breath away with their sea of 7 colors, which mixed with the sincere smiles of the locals make this destination one of the best places to spend a vacation.
What is the charming of San Andrés in Easter?
The most popular adventure sports are, of course, diving and snorkelling; Imagine how the fauna of the depths of this natural wonder will be. On the other hand, the surf and windsurf, navigate along the seven colors in kayak, observe the islands from the air while practicing parasailing and even join sport fishery in areas designed to do so, and with good company.

GUATAPÉ
It is located 79km from Medellín, Guatapé is considered one of the most beautiful towns in Colombia and a favorite stop for many travelers, thanks to its impressive landscapes and colorful houses that fill the place with joy. If you have managed to capture your attention and visit it but you do not know how to get to Guatapé, then this information will help you a bit.
First, you must get to Medellin, which is the closest city to Guatapé; there are three ways to reach this place:
On your own in public transport.
On your own by car.
With a travel agency.
To Get to Guatapé by public transportation
It’s much simpler than you think and it’s the cheapest option. You just have to take a bus from the bus terminal in Medellín and you will arrive in Guatapé in about two hours.
Once in Guatapé there are 3 activities that you cannot miss:
– Climb the Peñol: From the top, you will have one of the most beautiful views of all Colombia. Dare to climb your 740 steps.
– Walk around the town: It is one of the most colorful and unique places, because all its houses are decorated with beautiful baseboards.
– Tour the boardwalk y reservoir: Another great attraction of the place is its beautiful waterfront and all the aquatic activities that you can do: boating, jet skiing and sky.
