Tour Itinerary
1 Day Tour to Gairaca Beach in Colombia
The adventure begins at 8:00 a.m. leaving from our office in Santa Marta. We will cross the city enjoying its urban landscapes before taking the detour to the Tayrona Park through the Palangana entrance, a less crowded access that takes us through a road full of nature to the park’s checkpoint.
There, National Park officials will give us an introductory talk about biodiversity and the importance of conserving this natural treasure and the information about Gairaca Beach.
Then we will continue the tour through a path surrounded by vegetation for about 40 minutes until we reach Gairaca Beach. Upon arrival, we will find a paradise of tranquility where we can relax and enjoy the sea. This beach is perfect for swimming in its clear waters or simply resting under the shade of a tent.
At noon we will enjoy a typical lunch of the region, usually with a choice of fresh fish, while we share a cultural talk guided by a local who will tell us about the indigenous communities that inhabit the surroundings and the cultural and historical value that this beach has for them.
During the rest of the day in Gairaca Beach, you will have free time to swim, practice basic snorkeling from the shore, or if you wish, hire a professional snorkeling service that includes a talk about marine fauna and a deeper tour among reefs and tropical fish. You will also have the option of taking a boat to visit other beaches in the park, ideal for exploring and snorkeling in an even wilder environment.
Before returning to Santa Marta, we will make a stop at the impressive Siete Olas viewpoint, a place that offers unforgettable postcards of the sea breaking strongly against the coast. The return is scheduled around 5:00 p.m., concluding a day full of peace, nature and connection.

1. Where is Playa Gairaca located and how do you get there?
Playa Gairaca is inside Tayrona National Natural Park, about 40 minutes from Santa Marta. Access is usually through the Taganga entrance, followed by a boat ride or an authorized 4×4 vehicle. Because it’s not an easy-to-reach beach, most travelers visit with an organized tour.
2. Can you swim at Playa Gairaca?
Yes. The waters are generally calm, making it a good spot for swimming and light snorkeling. Still, it’s important to follow the guide’s instructions and avoid deeper areas.
3. Is Playa Gairaca suitable for families and children?

5. What activities can you do at Playa Gairaca?
It’s an ideal spot to relax, swim, sunbathe, and snorkel near the shore. It’s also perfect for travelers looking for a quiet, uncrowded beach inside Tayrona with beautiful natural scenery.

Posted on María del Pilar VVerified Increible experiencia! RECOMIENDO! Posted on Fred BVerified A trek to remember We contacted Expotur and the communication was easy and efficient. They accepted to move the dates.Posted on Timon MVerified A hike you must have done if you love hiking It was one of the greatest experiences I had in Colombia. The ruins were amazing and the path to it was very challenging. The guide and translator were very informative about the entire history of the Lost City. Definitely worth it to do this hike.Posted on Larry MVerified Hiking the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta to the Lost City A wonderful experience on this 4-day hiking tour, led by a great team and in the company of 7 other hikers from all over the world (we chose to call our group "Los Churros Perdidos" in a joking reference to our destination the Lost City, Ciudad Perdida). The tour was well organized from start to finish, with frequent stops for rest, water and refreshments (delicious fruits). The overnight accommodations were more comfortable than I expected, sleeping in proper beds fully protected by mosquito nets, with the pleasant sound of the nearby flowing river in the background (but bring ear plugs in case your neighbor snores!). We were fortunate to have very little rain and enough clouds to reduce the heat and sun exposure (much of the hike is under the shade of trees). We were served three hot meals a day, hearty and tasty thanks to our brilliant cook Ismael. Our jovial guide Cesar Jr. (nicknamed Pichurro) gave us clear explanations and advice in Spanish, translated in English by the interpreter Aldair who also served as guide (during the hike one was in front and one in the rear of the group so that each of us could walk at our own pace). The hike through the tropical forest was spectacular, with scenic views of lush green hills, passing by small farms at the lower altitude and then traditional huts of indigenous people as we entered their territory. After hours of hiking and sweating profusely we enjoyed a cool dip in the river (being careful not to get pulled by the strong current). Everyone in our group was in good physical shape, including the older ones such as myself. But it was a strenuous hike, with several steep slopes uphill and downhill on rocky or muddy trails. But it was well worth the effort when we finally reached the archeological ruins of the Lost City, a truly unique historical site. I deliberately avoided looking at photos before the trip to preserve the surprise and I'm glad I did, so I won't describe it here 😉 The agency provided a timely pickup at my hotel, luggage storage at the agency, and return to my hotel afterwards. My advice to prospective participants: travel light (or pay extra to have your backpack carried for you), apply potent mosquito repellent (DEET or icaridin based) and bring enough Colombian pesos in cash ito buy cold drinks and souvenirs and to offer well deserved tips to the crew at the end of the tour. Finally a special thanks to Cesar, Aldair and Ismael who improvised a celebration for me on my birthday during the tour and provided a beautiful cake at our last stop!
