The Vía Isla de Salamanca Park is a protected area of Colombia that receives this name by the road that passes through it, from which you can appreciate the flora and fauna of the area. The most significant area of mangroves in the Colombian Caribbean is protected in the Vía Parque Isla de Salamanca.

If you decide to travel independently, once you arrive at this set of small islands, it will depend on your starting point, be it Santa Marta or Barranquilla.

To get to Isla de Salamanca Park from Santa Marta, you have to go by bus or car, through the road from Santa Marta to Barranquilla; entering the Park will be at a point called of Tasajera, after passing through a toll, after approximately one hour of driving.

On the other hand, if you are in Barranquilla, all you need to do is cross the Pumarejo Bridge, on the road that goes to Santa Marta. You will reach the Island of Salamanca in 10 minutes.

Currently it is not allowed to spend the night in the Vía Isla de Salamanca Park, so you must schedule yourself to take a day tour. We suggest you to go very early so you can go canoeing through the mangroves, guided walks, bird watching, among other activities for the enjoyment and respect of nature.

Generally the food service is under reservation, but you can take food in the backpack you carry. Just remember that, in this case you cannot feed any of the species of the place or leaving traces of food. All the garbage you produce should return with you to Santa Marta or Barranquila, where you will deposit it in appropriate bins.

This area has received different awards: it was declared by Unesco as a Biosphere Reserve; It was also declared a Ramsar Site, of global importance; In addition of being recognized as Area of Importance for Bird Conservation (AICA).
The aforementioned acknowledgments are important to highlight the importance of preserving this place and having proper behavior when we visit it.

Do not carry soap, shampoo, aerosols or other items that are not biodegradable, as they may threaten biodiversity.

It is totally forbidden to make fires, burn trash, cut down, capture animals, pluck flora, and throw cigarette butts, among other actions that harm the environment.
