EXCELLENT Based on 6321 reviews Posted on Pia KVerified Perfect 4 days Probably the highlight of our Colobia trip :) The whole experience was just amazing, the nature and the lost city are absolutely beautiful, the trip is very well organised, the camps were clean and well maintained, the hiking itself was just the right ammount of challenging. Gabriel, Pilar and Jesus were just perfect, they really made sure we were taken care of in every way and made the trip even more of a once in a liftime experience. The food, the views, the energy.. 10/10, no notes :)Posted on gaji rVerified Amazing The trip was amazing. Posted on María del Pilar VVerified Increible experiencia! RECOMIENDO! Posted on Fred BVerified A trek to remember We contacted Expotur and the communication was easy and efficient. They accepted to move the dates.Posted on Timon MVerified A hike you must have done if you love hiking It was one of the greatest experiences I had in Colombia. The ruins were amazing and the path to it was very challenging. The guide and translator were very informative about the entire history of the Lost City. Definitely worth it to do this hike.Posted on Larry MVerified Hiking the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta to the Lost City A wonderful experience on this 4-day hiking tour, led by a great team and in the company of 7 other hikers from all over the world (we chose to call our group "Los Churros Perdidos" in a joking reference to our destination the Lost City, Ciudad Perdida). The tour was well organized from start to finish, with frequent stops for rest, water and refreshments (delicious fruits). The overnight accommodations were more comfortable than I expected, sleeping in proper beds fully protected by mosquito nets, with the pleasant sound of the nearby flowing river in the background (but bring ear plugs in case your neighbor snores!). We were fortunate to have very little rain and enough clouds to reduce the heat and sun exposure (much of the hike is under the shade of trees). We were served three hot meals a day, hearty and tasty thanks to our brilliant cook Ismael. Our jovial guide Cesar Jr. (nicknamed Pichurro) gave us clear explanations and advice in Spanish, translated in English by the interpreter Aldair who also served as guide (during the hike one was in front and one in the rear of the group so that each of us could walk at our own pace). The hike through the tropical forest was spectacular, with scenic views of lush green hills, passing by small farms at the lower altitude and then traditional huts of indigenous people as we entered their territory. After hours of hiking and sweating profusely we enjoyed a cool dip in the river (being careful not to get pulled by the strong current). Everyone in our group was in good physical shape, including the older ones such as myself. But it was a strenuous hike, with several steep slopes uphill and downhill on rocky or muddy trails. But it was well worth the effort when we finally reached the archeological ruins of the Lost City, a truly unique historical site. I deliberately avoided looking at photos before the trip to preserve the surprise and I'm glad I did, so I won't describe it here 😉 The agency provided a timely pickup at my hotel, luggage storage at the agency, and return to my hotel afterwards. My advice to prospective participants: travel light (or pay extra to have your backpack carried for you), apply potent mosquito repellent (DEET or icaridin based) and bring enough Colombian pesos in cash ito buy cold drinks and souvenirs and to offer well deserved tips to the crew at the end of the tour. Finally a special thanks to Cesar, Aldair and Ismael who improvised a celebration for me on my birthday during the tour and provided a beautiful cake at our last stop!
