Tayrona National Park in Colombia

The Colombian Caribbean is full of natural wonders, the beauty of its beaches, the human warmth and its ancestral cultures. You can find this and more in Santa Marta, as its slogan says “la magia de tenerlo todo” in English: the magic of having everything. That´s why thousands of people from all over the world decide set up an appointment with the adventure attending the call of this beautiful land; which is full of places to visit. Two of the places you must visit are Lost City and Tayrona Park (Tayrona National Natural Park) despite being recognized abroad due to its huge beauty and natural variety. They are mixed up or taken as one place. Taking into consideration this little mistake we wanted to tell you the features and differences so you can organize better your trip.

Ciudad Perdida

Qué llevar a Ciudad Perdida ciudad perdida santa marta As you might have read in one of our previous blogs: “How to find The Lost City in the heart of Sierra Nevada of Santa Marta”, this magic place nestled in the highest mountainous system of the world and constitutes itself a natural reserve where you can find every zone climates; as well as different ecosystems. Furthermore it is located at the north west of the country and distributed across the provinces of Magdalena, La Guajira and Cesar. The Lost City is a settlement of Kogi, Wiwa and Arhuaco cultures where you can get after a journey through the heart of the tropical rainforest.

Tayrona Park

On the other hand, the Tayrona National Park is an ecological reserve that is extended across the Caribbean coastline and mixes up the beauty of its beaches with the dry forest and the haze that hides more than one hundred species of mammals as it is the ocelot and the deer besides birds of prey. This is on the foothills of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta and is distributed between Magdalena and La Guajira and more accessible than its spiky neighbor. Within the park and a few hundred meters from the sea, in Cabo San Juan you can start a three-hour ascent to Pueblito; another aboriginal settlement that is still populated and that has a terrace system typical of the Tayrona culture, maybe this is what generates a bit of confusion between both places. As you can see, these two destinations are perfect if you are a lover of nature and passionate about adventure. Tell us in the comments which of them you would like to know.
