The Lost City Trek 3 Days Tour

Lost City Trek begins at 5:00 a.m. with a pickup from your Hotel in Santa Marta. From there, you’ll embark on a 4×4 vehicle ride approximately three hours, traveling into the first point of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta to start this adventure.

Upon arrival at El Mamey, the starting point of the trek, you’ll enjoy a traditional breakfast to prepare for the day’s journey. After breakfast, the experience continues with a one hour motorcycle ride along unpaved mountain roads to reach the first camp, Vista Hermosa or other camp, depending on our logistic.

The trek officially begins here with a 7.6-kilometer hike that takes around three hours. This stretch offers a first glimpse into the region’s natural beauty, filled with dense tropical vegetation and the sounds of the jungle. You’ll arrive at Mumake Camp, where a freshly prepared lunch awaits, offering a moment to rest and recharge.

Following lunch, the second hiking session of the day begins. This four-hour walk leads to Zhulezhi Camp, deeper within the Sierra Nevada. Along the way, trekkers can appreciate the unique flora and fauna of the region, as well as the subtle cultural presence of indigenous communities that live in harmony with the environment.

Upon arrival at Zhulezhi Camp, you’ll settle in for the evening. The camp offers basic but comfortable facilities, including showers, toilets, and electricity available from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Dinner is served at the camp, giving you the chance to relax, share stories with fellow hikers, and reflect on the first full day of the Lost City Trek.

Begin the day early with a nourishing breakfast as you prepare for one of the most memorable moments of the Lost City Trek in Colombia.

Just 2 kilometers from the camp, you’ll ascend approximately 1,200 ancient stone steps that lead to the legendary archaeological site of Teyuna, known today as the Lost City. This sacred place, hidden deep within the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, is considered one of the most significant pre-Hispanic settlements in South America.

Once at the top, you’ll enjoy a guided tour lasting around three hours through the terraces, ceremonial areas, and historical ruins of the Lost City. As you explore, your guide will share fascinating insights into the Tayrona civilization and their enduring legacy.

After the visit, you will return to Zhulezhi Camp for lunch and a well-deserved rest. In the afternoon, the journey continues with a descent back to Mumake Camp, where you will spend the night.

Upon arrival, settle into your accommodation and enjoy a warm dinner. The evening is yours to relax, either in a hammock or bed, surrounded by the peaceful rhythm of the jungle.

Begin your final day of the Lost City Trek with a satisfying breakfast at the camp, giving your body the energy it needs for the return journey through the heart of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta.

After packing your belongings, you’ll begin the descent toward the village of El Mamey. This final hike will take approximately 6 to 8 hours, retracing the paths you took on your way in. Along the way, take in the last views of the lush jungle landscapes, mountain ridges, and rivers that have accompanied your journey.

Upon arrival in El Mamey, you’ll enjoy a well-deserved lunch in the village. This is a perfect moment to unwind, reflect on your experience, and celebrate the completion of an unforgettable adventure.

Following lunch, transportation will be provided back to Santa Marta in a 4×4 vehicle. The ride takes approximately 3 hours, bringing you back to the city filled with memories, stories, and a deep connection to one of Colombia’s most extraordinary trekking experiences — the Lost City Trek.
