It is also called &#8220;The River of the Gods,&#8221; &#8220;The Rainbow that melted,&#8221; among other names&#8230; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The beauty\nof this place is caused by the aquatic plants that lodge in its bottom, which\nwhen receiving the rays of the sun cause a beautiful visual phenomenon, leaving\nin sight the mixture of colors green, intense red, yellow, blue, pink &#8230; a\nwhole liquid rainbow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What is Ca\u00f1o Cristales<\/strong>?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>It is not a wide\nor abundant river which is why it is a \u201cspout\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Ca\u00f1o Cristales<\/strong> does not exceed 20 meters wide, although its length goes beyond 100 kilometers; born on the southern plateau of the <strong>Serran\u00eda de La Macarena.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Where is Ca\u00f1o Cristales?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This paradise of Colombia is located to the north of the municipality of <strong>La Macarena<\/strong>, in Meta province.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/expotur-eco.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/cano-cristales-el-rio-de-colores.jpg\" alt=\"ca\u00f1o cristales\" class=\"wp-image-5819\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"> <em>Photo taken from es.wikipedia.org<\/em> <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How to get to Ca\u00f1o Cristales?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Most travelers choose to stay in La Macarena, and from there, <strong>go to Ca\u00f1o Cristales<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To arrive you must pass the <strong>Guayabero River<\/strong> by boat, which takes 20 minutes; then a trail is crossed in campero (jeep-style cars in the region), this lasts 25 minutes; and then walk to the entrance of the river for approximately 1 hour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Travel<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The tour to this\nmagical site should be done with an experienced guide who already knows the\narea. You will also receive a previous talk so that you take into account\nseveral aspects and thus enjoy the walk more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The next activity to do in this place is a boat ride along the <strong>Guayabero River<\/strong>, where you can appreciate the animals of the region; Birds, babillas, turtles, among others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Later, an ecological walk begins towards Cristalitos, a beautiful place that serves as a prelude to the wonderful <strong>Ca\u00f1o Cristales<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are other places around Ca\u00f1o Cristales, which are also very special and beautiful; among them are <strong>Ca\u00f1o Escondido<\/strong>, <strong>Cascada de la Virgen<\/strong>, <strong>Pianos<\/strong> and the <strong>Cascada de los Cuarzos<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Fun Fact about Ca\u00f1o Cristales and the region:<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Many years ago, the area of \u200b\u200b<strong>La Macarena<\/strong> was a place used for the <strong>cultivation of the coca bush<\/strong>, which was controlled and eradicated in order to make this paradise an ideal place for tourists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Best time of the year to go to Ca\u00f1o Cristales<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/expotur-eco.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/cano-cristales-colombia.png\" alt=\"ca\u00f1o cristales colombia\" class=\"wp-image-5821\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"> <em>Photo taken from commons.wikimedia.org<\/em>  <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The ideal season to travel to Ca\u00f1o Cristales is only 6 months a year, starting the <strong>first days of June until November 30.<\/strong> Sometimes it extends a little more, until mid-December. This is the best time because there is enough water in the river and it is possible to appreciate more its diversity of colors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Between the months of December and the end of May you can also <strong>travel to La Macarena<\/strong>; however, you will not be able to access the river, since its entry is denied because these aquatic plants are in the reproductive period during these months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Fauna and flora always present<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Throughout the rocky bed of Ca\u00f1o Cristales there are aquatic plants responsible for giving the beautiful colors, especially the intense red color that is given by an endemic plant called <em>Macarenia clavigera<\/em>.
