The towns close to the Totumo Volcano<\/strong> are: the Loma de Arena<\/strong>, Pueblo Nuevo<\/strong> and Galerazamba<\/strong> (which is currently also very famous for its pink sea<\/strong> phenomenon). Its access route connects the city of Cartagena<\/strong> with Barranquilla<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How to get to the Totumo Volcano?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The first thing you must do, to go to the Totumo Volcano<\/strong> is to go to Cartagena or Barranquilla. The transport to go to the volcano is only terrestrial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From Cartagena<\/strong>, the ticket has worth $ 50,000 pesos per person and the trip takes approximately 1 hour and 10 minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you are in Barranquilla<\/strong>, it costs between $ 50,000 and $ 60,000 Colombian pesos and it will take you 1 hour and 15 minutes to arrive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Adults pay $\n15,000 COP and children from 2 years old $ 10,000; keep in mind that this value\nmay vary (from $ 2,000 to $ 4,000 pesos more) depending on the season in which\nyou decide to visit it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The entrance to the Totumo Volcano<\/strong> is allowed from 7:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is special about the place?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Totumo Volcano<\/strong> is full of mud, which natives consider “curative mud<\/em><\/strong>“, due to its therapeutic qualities characterized by the ingredients it contains such as water, silica, aluminum, magnesium, sulfur, calcium, iron and more minerals. Some visitors report having changes in the appearance of their skin, others in their muscles and joints, besides being a very fun activity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To enter the Mud Volcano of Colombia<\/strong> you must climb some stairs. The volcano is 15 meters high and its crater measures 4.5 meters in diameter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Upon entering the crater of the Totumo Volcano<\/strong>, you will feel the density of its warm and thick mud, at the beginning, it feels a bit uncomfortable but as you drop your body, you will feel more relaxed. The maximum time to stay in the mud is a maximum of 10 minutes (no more time is advisable due to the temperature).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Am I going to sink into the Totumo Volcano?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Do not worry! You are not going to sink, its minerals do not allow it no matter how heavy you are, it is something similar to what happens to those who bathe in the Dead Sea<\/strong> (they simply float).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The key to the mud bath is that when you get out of it, let it dry on your body to enjoy its properties and then you wash yourself in the freshwater swamp that is nearby. In addition, the inhabitants of the place offer shower services in their restaurants for comfort and hygiene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Take a swimsuit easy to remove, remember that you will be very full of mud and you will have to wash it very well when leaving. In the case of women, some, also decide to “put on” their muddy hair, others wear pool caps to protect it. Wear sandals or non-slip shoes. Do not forget to bring an additional change of clothes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fun fact about the Totumo Volcano<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

This site has a\nlegend that tells us that many years ago the volcano was active, causing\nproblems for the community. Therefore, a Catholic priest used holy water to\ntransform the lava of the burning volcano into what is now known as the\nmiraculous mud.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
